UX Design and Plotting

My hypothesis is that UX Design is similar to plotting fictional novels.

This is a very generalised thought of connecting two unrelated things. But worth a shot to put my thoughts in public.

You see, stories are built on 3 key aspects : Promise, Progress and Payoff.

Promise:

Promise is what we tell to the readers that this is going to happen. A murder mystery by Agatha Christie promises an intriguing whodunit. Action films promises fight scenes.

When it comes to UX design, your landing page is your promise. How do we convey to the user about the problem and the solution. It is the first impression that user will have of the product. What do you promise to your users?

Progress:

How does the story evolve? Journey of your protagonist as they move ahead to their goal. Harry Potter will have to go to Hogwarts to learn magic. Kabir Khan will have to build the team from scratch for the world cup.

When it comes to UX design, it's about guiding the user ahead to solve the said problem. Where will they find desired product. What will they do after finding the product? How will they pay?

Payoff:

Final nail to the coffin in the story. Voldemort defeated. Kabir Khan became the winning coach.

When it comes to UX design, it's what user came for. Order received. Campaigns sent.

As I learn and read more, I'd be able to confirm my hypothesis.
